Bayern Munich boss Louis van Gaal has revealed that he has been astounded by the commitment that his players have managed to muster during their mid-season training camp, and that has fuelled the Dutch coach’s optimism ahead of the second part of the Bundesliga campaign.
Die Roten were 14 points back of leaders Borussia Dortmund at the halfway mark of the campaign, but BVB’s win over Bayer Leverkusen on Friday night has added another three marks to that tally. Nevertheless, Van Gaal is eager for the second half of the season to begin.
“The players are fired up and they’ve asked me if I’m fired up too,” the Dutchman told his side’s official website. “And the answer is yes, I’m fired up! We’ve trained so well and with so much passion. I’ve rarely seen that before. I’m really intrigued to see if we can confirm our form against Wolfsburg.”
With long term injury problems Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery now back in the fold, Bayern will be hoping to enjoy more consistency and success in the spring than they mustered in the autumn.
