thumbnail Hello,

Wolfsburg are reportedly keeping tabs on USA defender Jay DeMerit.

According to a report on TalkSport, ambitious Bundesliga side Wolfsburg are considering making a move for former Watford skipper Jay DeMerit. The defender is a free agent after being released by the English outfit earlier this summer.

The Wolfe are in the market for defensive reinforcements because of the injury to Arne Friedrich and head coach Steve McClaren reportedly sees the 30-year-old DeMerit as the perfect addition to his back-line.

DeMerit wore the jerseys of Chicago Fire, Southall and Nordwood before joining Watford in the summer of 2004. The centre-back has since made well over 150 official appearances for the Championship side, but his expiring contract wasn't renewed this summer.

The USA international has since been looking for a new club and could now very well be on his way to Germany.

"Playing in the World Cup this summer was more or less the ultimate challenge and on a personal level I want to find something that will continue to challenge me. I'm open to most of Europe and to be honest I'm open to going back to the States," said DeMerit to Football League Podcast.
