Bayer Leverkusen striker Patrick Helmes has sustained an injury that will keep him sidelined for the beginning of the Bundesliga season, and possibly next month's internationals.
During Leverkusen's 3-0 victory in a Europa League play-off with Tavrija Simferopol, Germany international suffered a minor calf tear. He is expected to miss between two and three weeks.
Helmes, 26, missed most of last season with a knee injury. He was in excellent form heading into the first week of the Bundesliga season, but will have to wait a few more weeks to begin his season. In Helmes' stead, Eren Derdiyok will partner Stefan Kiessling in attack. Leverkusen's season opener against Dortmund will kick off on Sunday at 17:30 CET.
