Hannover 4-2 Schalke

Hannover midfielder Manuel Schmiedebach sprung the Schalke offside trap and saw his cross deflected into the net by Heiko Westermann, giving struggling Hannover an early lead under rather fortunate circumstances. Just before the half hour mark, Schmiedebach teed up Didier Ya Konan, who finished well from 20 yards to double Hannover's advantage, one that they held until the halftime break.

In the second half, Schalke were vastly improved, and equalised within seven minutes. Goals from Edu (46) and Ivan Rakitic (52, penelaty) levelled proceedings, but Hannover would not be denied. With ten minutes to go, Hanno Balitsch turned and blasted a scorcher from 18 yards out. In the closing minutes, Ya Konan sprung the offside trap to complete his brace, sealing a well-earned victory for Hannover.

Hertha Berlin 0-1 Stuttgart

Brave Hertha managed to keep a clean sheet for 74 minutes, but could not create enough chances of their own, and lost their opportunity to take a point when Stuttgart striker Cacau broke away to fire in a long-range winner.

Mainz 1-0 Borussia Dortmund

On-loan striker Adam Szalai put Mainz ahead after 30 minutes, and the hosts never looked back. Dortmund had their chances in the first half, but were foiled after the interval, and the home side held on for a narrow victory.

Hoffenheim 0-2 Koeln

After a scoreless first half, underused Koeln midfielder Adam Matuschyk blasted in a fine effort from distance. The Poland native completed his brace on 82 minutes with another excellent strike, and Koeln held on to claim three points.

Werder Bremen 4-0 Freiburg

It took more than half an hour for the hosts to open the scoring, but Claudio Pizarro put Bremen ahead, and Freiburg were unable to respond. Second half goals from Aaron Hunt (54), Pizarro (56), and Mesut Oezil (66) rounded off a comfortbale 4-0 victory for Bremen, who inched closer to a return to a Champions League berth after today's win.
