Koeln attacker Lukas Podolski returned to full training last week and the German international was widely expected to participate in the Bundesliga game against Hamburger SV on Saturday.

However, the former Bayern Munich star was eventually left out of Koeln's match squad after he picked up a foot injury during a training session and failed a subsequent fitness test.

The 24-year-old was scheduled to train individually on Sunday, but Podolski left the training pitch shortly after the start of the session, with his foot causing him further problems. As a result, Podolski is expected to miss out on Wednesday's DFB Pokal game against Augsburg.

Head coach Zvonimir Soldo confirmed the news about Podolski's setback, but the Croatian gaffer revealed that he had expected the attacker to miss out on last weekend's game in any case.

"He probably wouldn't have made it in time for the match against HSV anyway. He needs some more training action before being fit enough to play a match again," Soldo said.
