Belgian defender Daniel Van Buyten believes that Bayern Munich are working in the correct manner to keep Franck Ribery from being lured away, indicating that he believes his decision to remain with the Bavarian giants will spark a positive reaction from his French cohort.

Van Buyten is the latest Bayern star to pen a new contract, shackling himself to the Bundesliga side until 2012. The 31-year-old is aware that Ribery, who has been linked closely with Real Madrid and Barcelona, wants FCB to show ambition and retain their top players. He is therefore confident that he has done his bit to help FC Hollywood retain their greatest star.

“Franck has been looking forward and said, ‘That was a good sign for you and the entire squad,’” Van Buyten, a close acquaintance of Ribery, told Bild. “Previously, Frank always said to me, ‘Daniel, I want you to stay in Munich. I can only imagine it would be hard to play for Bayern without you.’

“Bayern definitely has a chance to keep him. The fact that I signed is an important thing for Frank to also remain in Munich. I cannot sign the contract for him, but I will speak to him now on behalf of FC Bayern and try to convince him to stay.”

Young guns Thomas Muller and Holger Badstuber have recently extended their deals at the Allianz Arena to 2013 and 2014 respectively.
