Bundesliga Sunday Round-up: Dortmund Hammer Wolfsburg
Dortmund won 3-1 in Wolfsburg today shortly after Mainz grabbed a last-minute equalizer against Stuttgart.
Mainz 1-1 Stuttgart
Stuttgart picked up where they left off in midweek, going a goal ahead in the 11th minute, thanks to a strike from resurgent poacher Pavel Pogrebnyak. After the opener, and especially during the second half, Mainz were unquestionably the dominant team. With three minutes to go, Jens Lehmann committed a foul on Aristide Bance that saw the home side get a chance to equalize from the penalty spot. Before the spot kick was taken, Lehmann was sent off for fighting, leaving substitute Sven Ulreich to face Eugen Polanski. The Polish-born midfielder took his penalty well, and Mainz took a well-earned point.
Wolfsburg 1-3 Borussia Dortmund
In their first two shots of the game, Dortmund went 2-0 ahead from strikes from Lucas Barrios (8, 10). Following a set piece, Patrick Owomoyela made it 3-0 on 36 minutes, and Dortmund cruised to a commanding halftime lead.
On 55 minutes, substitute Grafite pulled one back for a resurgent Wolfsburg, but the Dortmund defense held strong, and did not allow their hosts a chance to get back into the game.
