Gelsenkirchen side Schalke cruised to an important 2-0 away win against Werder Bremen on Saturday and climbed to second spot in the table following the result, much to the delight of striker Kevin Kuranyi.

"We played a good first half and were even better after the interval. We never stopped attacking in the second half and were extremely solid at the back," said Kuranyi to reporters.

"We have worked very hard during pre-season and this pays off now. However, we shouldn't become complacent after this win. We haven't achieved anything yet. We have to build on this win and keep on improving."

Kuranyi not only scored once to gift his side the lead, but the prolific striker also set up Jan Moravek for Schalke's second goal of the match.

"Lewis Holtby gave a great pass and all I had to do was slot home from close range to score the opener. I saw that Jan was left unmarked when he scored our second and I waited until the final moment to set him up."
