Claudio Pizarro Set To Miss Werder Bremen’s Schalke Encounter
The prolific forward had high hopes of turning out against the Koenigsblauen, but he will have to delay his return a little longer as he continues to suffer pains in his foot.
Peruvian striker Claudio Pizarro looks set to miss out on Werder Bremen’s weekend Bundesliga encounter against Schalke despite mixed reports in the German press as to his availability.
Having missed six weeks of action due to injury, the former Chelsea man returned to training earlier this week, chirping on Wednesday, “I'm fine. My force is still missing, but maybe I can play Saturday.”
However, it seems that matters have taken a turn for the worse for the 31-year-old, who is reportedly suffering from pains in his foot whenever he strikes a ball with any ferocity.
Head coach Thomas Schaaf stated that his top scorer, who has registered six times in just eight starts this campaign, will not be fit for the weekend’s encounter.
“He will not play,” he explained grimly to Bild. “We will have to wait a little further.”
The Weserstadion club were held to a scoreless draw last weekend against Koeln, but they have enjoyed good form in front of goal otherwise, hitting the net 12 times in their previous three matches, including a six-goal haul against defensively weak Freiburg.
