Nothing Learnt From Robert Enke Death - Former Stuttgart Coach Markus Babbel
The former boss has hit out at the fans of the Schwaben...
Markus Babbel has hit out at the fans of Stuttgart in the wake of the club's 1-1 Bundesliga draw against Bochum last weekend. The Stuttgart fanatics booed their players following yet another disappointing performance and angry fans attacked the team bus after the match.
"Even those considered 'football millionaires' don't deserve such hate and death threats being thrown in their face," Babbel told the Sueddeutsche Zeitung.
"On Saturday there were two players on the pitch from the youth teams who were afraid. The blame falls on the fans. The profession has learnt nothing from the death of Robert Enke. The pressure put on players by fans now is huge."
Enke committed suicide back in November after he couldn't cope with the pressure of being a professional footballer any longer. The former German international suffered from heavy bouts of depression.
Babbel was sacked by the struggling Bundesliga side on Sunday due to the club's disastrous league campaign so far.
