Bayern Munich Fine Philipp Lahm & Luca Toni For Breaches Of Discipline
Bayern Munich stars Luca Toni and Philipp Lahm have been slapped with heavy fines...
German powerhouse Bayern Munich have fined Italian hitman Luca Toni and highly rated defender Philipp Lahm for their conduct this weekend.
Toni left the stadium at half time of the 1-1 draw with Schalke, after being substituted by coach Louis van Gaal, while Lahm criticised the club in an interview with the Suddeutsche Zeitung.
Both players have been given a considerable fine for their conduct, after being reprimanded by Van Gaal and the club's chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge before training on Sunday.
A statement on the club's official website reads as follows:
"With his unauthorised early departure from the Bundesliga match and the Allianz Arena on Saturday, Luca Toni committed an unacceptable breach of club discipline. The board has resolved to levy a substantial fine. In the meantime and notwithstanding the fine, Luca Toni has apologised for his behaviour to the club and his team-mates."
Club vice-captain Philipp Lahm, who was openly critical of the club, the coach and his team-mates in an interview, has violated internal club rules in a flagrant and inexcusable manner, according to officials.
“Philipp has broken both these clearly-defined agreements,” Rummenigge commented.
“We are disappointed, because as our vice-captain, he fundamentally bears a special responsibility towards the team and the club. Philipp Lahm will be punished with a fine heavier than any levied before by FC Bayern Munich.”
