Bundesliga outfit Bayer Leverkusen have received some promising news on the injury front. Highly-rated striker Patrick Helmes returned to training on Wednesday, stepping up his recovery from torn cruciate knee ligaments.
The prolific forward suffered the injury back in June whilst keeping fit on holiday. As a result, he has not featured for the side this season.
A report on the official Leverkusen website states that Helmes trained with the squad for much of Wednesday's session.
"I'm building up slowly," he confirmed. "I trained with the squad for an hour on Saturday and I'd like to start full training after the Eintracht Frankfurt game on November 6. My knee's fine again and I feel fully fit."
Helmes was Leverkusen's top goalscorer last term with 21 goals. That was his first year with the club after joining the Werkself from Koeln in the summer of 2008.
