Bayern Munich Chase Olympique de Marseille Goalkeeper Steve Mandanda - Report
Promising glovesman Mandanda is reportedly being courted by a Bayern side still desperate to find a strong No.1...
According to a report in German newspaper TZ, Bundesliga giants Bayern Munich are closely monitoring the situation of Olympique de Marseille shot-stopper Steve Mandanda.
The Bavarians have been after a new goalkeeper ever since the retirement of the legendary Oliver Kahn in the summer of 2008. Michael Rensing and Hans-Joerg Butt have since failed to impress between the sticks.
Munich were continually linked with a number of custodians last summer, with Schalke's Manuel Neuer reportedly their main target. However, Bayern refused to meet the Gelsenkirchen side's asking price for the German youngster and the transfer collapsed.
Head coach Louis van Gaal is reportedly desperate to land a new glovesman this winter, and Mandanda is reportedly sitting in pole position to become Bayern's new No.1.
The 24-year-old has made over 80 league appearances for l'OM in the past couple of seasons and has even made it into the French national team.
As les Phoceens' regular goalkeeper, Congo-born Mandanda will not be allowed to leave cheaply.
