Hertha Berlin Chase Free Agent Jan Vennegor of Hesselink - Report
The Dutch striker could be on his way to Germany...
According to a report in Berliner Zeitung, Europa League hopefuls Hertha BSC are considering making a move for highly-rated Dutch striker Jan Vennegoor of Hesselink.
The towering hit-man is a free agent ever since he left Celtic this summer and was being linked with a move to French outfit Saint-Etienne earlier this week. However, Vennegoor turned down an offer from the Ligue 1 side.
Hertha are in the market for a new striker due to the departure of Marko Pantelic and Andriy Voronin. The latter returned to Liverpool after a successful loan spell, while Pantelic left the club on a Bosman move.
Hertha coach Lucien Favre made it clear that Vennegoor is indeed a candidate to strengthen the Berlin side's attack, but stated that the German side can't afford to make a wrong choice when it comes to signing a new striker due to financial reasons.
Therefore, it remains to be seen whether Hertha will succeed in luring the experienced attacker to Berlin.
