Dortmund were keen to land a new attacker after the departure of Swiss forward Alexander Frei earlier this month. Frei opted to leave BVB in order to join Swiss outfit Basel.
Barrios joined Colo Colo from Mexican side Atlas in 2008 and immediately developed in to an important first team member at the Chilean side. The world’s leading scorer in 2008 scored 37 goals last season.
The 24-year-old Barrios had attracted the interest of a whole number of European teams with his impressive performances and was also being linked with Hertha and Werder Bremen.
