Reports from the Netherlands claim that Bundesliga side Hamburg are closing in on the signing of Twente Enschede attacker Eljero Elia.
The 22-year-old forward will according to De Telegraaf sign a five-year contract with the North German club until 2014 with the Eredivisie club receiving some €9 million as a transfer fee.
Elia will become the Rothosen’s third signing of the summer following those of Brazilian Ze Roberto and Bielefeld’s Robert Tesche.
New HSV trainer Bruno Labbadia begins his side’s pre-season training on Monday with a week-long training programme in Austria. Their first competitive match comes on July 30 when the Hanseaten play their third qualifying round tie for the Europa League.
Ajax are also in the hunt for the versatile forward, but it is believed Hamburg are in the driving seat.
