Swedish Youngster Marcus Berg Now On Bayern Munich Radar
His displays at the U-21 Championships have alerted a number of top clubs, and now Bayern Munich are sniffing round the Swedish goal getter…
Groningen striker Marcus Berg is currently one of the hottest young properties in football following his goal scoring performances for Sweden at the recent U-21 European Championships.
The 22-year-old hit seven goals as hosts Sweden made it as far as the semi-finals, only for the hosts to lose to England on penalties.
There has already been interest from the Bundesliga with both Stuttgart and Hamburg tracking him, but it now seems that Bavarian giants Bayern Munich have joined in the race for his signature.
According to the Swedish tabloid Aftonbladet Bayern are interested in taking the youngster to the Allianz Arena. New trainer Louis van Gaal is reportedly a fan of Berg having come up against him last season when he was coach at AZ Alkmaar.
Bjorn Andersson, Bayern’s youth trainer, told the Aftonbladet: “We are of the opinion that he is an interesting player. He targets the goal all the time and that is a good quality. Marcus is a player that we are following, but a lot of teams are following him.
“It’s clear that Marcus wouldn’t be guaranteed a starting place here like at other clubs.”
Other clubs being linked with the U-21 Golden Shoe winner are Ajax, AZ Alkmaar, Everton, Fiorentina, Hamburg, Tottenham Hotspur, Villarreal, and Benfica.
