Werder are already starting to invest the money they got for Diego in the transfer market with a Bolivian striker becoming their first acquisition…

Marcelo Moreno Martins - Cruzeiro

Werder Bremen have officially unveiled Bolivian striker Marcelo Moreno Martins as their first summer signing.

The South American arrives from UEFA Cup winners Shakhtar Donetsk; the 21-year-old passed a medical on Friday.

Werder Bremen manager Klaus Allofs has signed Moreno Martins on loan for a year with the option to buy at the end of that period.

“In Marcelo Moreno Martins, we are getting an athletic young striker who is very technically sound. I am convinced that our attack will continue to flourish," trainer Thomas Schaaf told the club’s website.

In 2008 he was the leading scorer of the Copa Libertadores and made his debut with the Bolivian national team in 13 October 2007 scoring seven goals in 12 appearances.

“Actually we were very close a year ago but I decided for Donetsk. I am very happy that Werder gave me a second chance. I would like to show my abilities in Bremen, help the team and continue to develop myself,” Moreno Martins explained.

”I am very happy that I was given the opportunity to play with such a big club like Werder Bremen and that Klaus Allofs and Thomas Schaaf gave me a second chance. Unfortunately it didn't work out last year for different reasons,” he added.
