Germany Striker Lukas Podolski Enjoying His Football Again

With Germany poised for a double-header of World Cup qualifiers, one player is more eager than most to spring into action…

Lukas Podolski - Germany
Germany take on Liechtenstein and Wales in the next week as they bid to qualify for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa, and Bayern Munich striker Lukas Podolski is chomping at the bit to play.

‘Poldi’ has recently had an extended run in the Bayern side following injuries to both Luca Toni and Miroslav Klose, and after a troubled time, he is now enjoying his football once again.

With the saga surrounding his exit from Bayern and his return to Koeln now finally sorted, he is raring to go in the forthcoming qualifiers.

“The past few months were as happy as they could have been for me,” Podolski told the DFB website.

“But lately I’ve regained my self-belief and am enjoying my football again.”

The 23-year-old missed Germany’s last international friendly defeat against Norway with an injury, but with Miroslav Klose now unavailable through injury, he will almost certainly start up front for Germany in the imminent qualifiers.

“I’ve been under pressure as a footballer since I was 18. I have to deal with it and I can do so. I want to score my goals in order to take us closer to the World Cup.

“That is our main goal, so therefore we have to win against both Liechtenstein and Wales,” he concluded.
