Schalke Talk To Oliver Kahn Over Vacant Managers Job
Despite earlier rebuttals from the iconic keeper, it has emerged that Schalke have spoken to the German legend about succeeding Andreas Mueller as the club’s manager.
Schalke general manager Andreas Mueller paid for the club’s poor season recently with his job and the Koenigsblauen are now on the hunt for a successor.
One name mentioned in media circles was that of former Bayern Munich legend Oliver Kahn and the 39-year-old has now confirmed he has spoken to the Gelsenkirchen club.
Kahn was spotted in a hotel this week in talks with Schalke chairman Clemens Tonnies in Rheda-Wiedenbruck after the former goalkeeper returned from a business trip to the Far East.
"It is all about finding out what conditions exist and how we can achieve things there," Kahn told Spiegel magazine.
"I have had several talks with Schalke. Whether it works out depends on many different factors."
The Gelsenkirchen club are remaining tight-lipped about any developments regarding the appointment of a new manager, but Tonnies appears confident that a solution will be found soon.
"We are still looking around the market," he said following the talks with Kahn.
"We have agreed that we will call each other again in two to three weeks.
"Kahn is a great guy and we are completely in agreement. We have discussed a plan and everything fits together.
"However, we still want to talk with other candidates."
