The Argentine defender is apparently ready to commit his future to the Bavarians...

Bayern Munich defender Martin Demichelis has today reportedly promised to sign a new contract that will keep him at the club until 2012. The 28-year-old Argentine has been with the German outfit since 2003, and club chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge was pleased to be able to confirm the offer of the new contract today.

"We have agreed in principle on a contract extension. Martin is staying," Rummenigge was quoted as saying by the Munich newspaper tz earlier.

Whilst at the moment there seems to be a 'gentleman's agreement' in place that the player will ink the new deal very shortly, there has as yet been no official confirmation from the club that the contract has been signed.

This, though, is not a problem for Rummenigge, who maintains that 'a man's word is his bond' at a club like Bayern.

"At Bayern, giving your word is like signing a contract. He [Demichelis] is staying," the former German international asserted to Bild.

Meanwhile, Bayern did confirm today that striker Miroslav Klose is set for a six week lay-off, after undergoing a successful operation on his injured ankle.
