Former South Korea international Lee Young-Pyo scores his first Whitecaps' goal in MLS

The 35-year-old scored his first goal in his new American adventure netting a 74th free kick that allowed his side to seal a 1-0 victory away to Columbus Crew

Former South Korea international Lee Young-Pyo has scored his first ever goal with Vancouver Whitecaps in the MLS in their narrow 1-0 win away against Columbus Crew on Saturday.

The 35-year-old, who joined the Canadian outfit in December, clinched the three points for his side with a free kick in the 74^th minute from the right flank.

Lee's shot looped over Columbus goalkeeper Andy Gruenebaum who was left redfaced by the goal.

After the game, Vancouver boss Martin Rennie admitted he felt the goal was "a little bit fortuitous".

This is the first goal at club level for the experienced full-back since the 2004-05 season with Dutch giants PSV Eindhoven, in a year where he was regarded as the best left-back in the Eredivisie.

Since his arrival at the Whitecaps, there's been widespread appreciation of Lee's temperament and professionalism.

Previously Lee spent two years in Saudi Arabia with Al Hilal, after six years in Europe, playing with PSV, Tottenham and Borussia Dortmund.
