Selangor FA escaped defeat after they secured a valuable 2-2 draw against recently crowned Charity Shield winners, Negeri Sembilan.

Emmanuel Effa Owona was impressive on his Super League debut, scoring two goals for the Deers, but Irfan Bakti's men bounced back in style as both sides shared the spoils at the end of the match.

The game kicked off in high tempo with Selangor opting for a more cautious 4-5-1 system against home side Negeri Sembilan. However the away team were shocked early on as Charity Shield hero Effa Owona continued his great start to life with the Deers by giving them the lead in the 4th minute.

Controversy was sparked when the referee dismissed claims of penalty from Selangor after a rash tackle on Amri Yahyah. The visitors then came within inches of scoring an equaliser when Nasriq Baharom curled in a beautiful cross but it fizzed pass everyone.

Negeri Sembilan then began to show great urgency with Owana being the obvious focal point of their attack. Their pace on the counterattack was terrific and as a result, they were awarded a penalty in the 33rd minute after Shahurain was fouled by Nasriq Baharom. Owona stepped up and slotted home in style as Negri went into the break with a comfortable 2-0 lead.

elangor came out firing on all cylinders after the break. They dominated proceedings for large periods and frustrated Negeri Sembilan as the home side struggled to maintain their tempo.

It did not take long before Selangor scored through Amirul Hadi. He got past his marker and fired a shot from a difficult angle which left Farizal Marlias beaten.

Selangor then restored parity in the 71st minute as Shahurain fouled Solihin and talismanic midfielder Safiq Rahim stepped up to score the penalty with composure.

The visitors continued to push for a winning goal but both sides settled for the draw after an enthralling game at the Tunku Abdul Rahman Stadium in Paroi.
