StarHub are the first sponsors to be announced in what's expected to be a series of lucrative sponsorship deals for the team

Football Association of Singapore (FAS) unveiled their partnership with telecommunications giant StarHub on January 5 while other key sponsors are expected to be announced in the coming days.

Speaking at the association's headquarters in Jalan Besar Stadium, FAS President Zainudin Nordin revealed that StarHub will be the Official Broadcaster and Principal Sponsor of LionsXII.

The broadcaster will carry all of the Singapore team's matches in the 2012 Malaysia Super League as well as Cup competitions beginning with the league opener on January 10 against Kelantan.

Matches will also be accessible on mobile services for StarHub subscribers and television broadcasts will be on SuperSports Arena (StarHub TV Ch 112 and 201) which is available to all StarHub subscribers. Non-subscribers can still view the matches however, by tuning their television sets to frequency 76.25MHz. Mediacorp Channel 5 will be carrying one match per month as well, for a total of seven ‘live’ league home matches and up to four Malaysia Cup matches.

"As a passionate home-grown supporter of local football, we want to cement our commitment to the cause with this broadcast and sponsorship deal," explained StarHub chief operating officer (COO) Tan Tong Hai who anchored the event with Zainudin.

The partnership also extends to off-field matters, with the Lions XII jerseys, which were also unveiled at the event, carrying the StarHub logo across the front.

StarHub's corporate presence on the jersey will not be alone however, as at least two other key sponsors are expected to be part of the shirt sponsorship deal.

Haircare products giant Silkpro is believed to be the next to announce their sponsorship on Saturday in what's reported to be a seven-figure sum deal.

Goal.com Malaysia and Singapore editions will be launched later this month.
