The Seladangs are slowly on the verge of making a comeback after years in the doldrums. Having faced periods of uncertainty, last season they impressed as they stunned the likes of Kelantan and Kedah and finished respectably in the Super League and Malaysia Cup.

Under coach Norizan Abu Bakar, Perak were more than just pushovers last season and their aim was always to revive the fortunes of the club. With key players Akhmal Rizal Rakhli, Shahrulnizam Mustapa and K. Nanthakumar all retained for this season, the Seladangs made some intriguing signings as well.

Despite seeing potential targets Safiq Rahim and Abdul Hadi Yahya all slip away, the Seladangs managed to secure the signature of talismanic defender Abdul Shahrom Kalam, who was a revelation with Kuala Lumpur FA last year. Norizan, fondly known as Cikgu Jan, was also quick to snap up Fahrul Razi Kamaruddin and Badrul Azam Mohd Zamri, both players boasting vast experience in their CV. Other acquisations include Failee Ghazali and Rafiuddin Roddin, after they impressed in the Malaysia Cup last year.

Perak have also signed Slovakian midfielder Michal Kubala and Serbian forward Lazar Popovic. Kubala, 31, last played in the Romanian top division, while Popovic, a towering presence, comes with glowing reviews about his goalscoring credentials.

The Seladangs have been inconsistent in their pre-season build-up so far. Glimpses of the 'Krescka-Repasi' combination between Popovic and Kubala have been visible and will only get better as they gel with the team. Shahrulnizam Mustapa will lead the team by example and with a solid defence commanded by Khairi Zainuddin, it could be an interesting season for Cikgu Jan's boys.
