Indonesia goalkeeper I Made Wirawan the hero as Wim Rijsbergen's side hold Saudi Arabia to goalless draw

Team Garuda broke their run of defeats to the Green Falcons and unexpectedly pulled off a goalless draw in a friendly match at the Shah Alam Stadium in Malaysia
Wim Rijsbergen's decision to change tactics and the composition of his team proved worthwhile as Indonesia drew 0-0 with Frank Rijkaard's Saudi Arabia in Selangor on Friday.

The draw meant the Indonesian national team managed to break their record of losses to the Green Falcons.

The result was satisfactory for Merah Putih who had previously begun their 2014 Fifa World Cup qualifying third round campaign with consecutive defeats.

Saudi Arabia relied on the sharpness of Yasser Al Qahtani and he dominated the game from the outset with a third-minute effort saved I Made Wirawan onto the crosbar.

Four minutes later, Wirawan once again successfully thwarted two opportunities as well as from Saudi Arabia.

Indonesia struggled to get into the game although Muhammad Ilham went close when he shot wide on 10 minutes.

On a quick counter-attack, Ilham had another chance on 23 minutes after an assist from Cristian Gonzales, however, once again he did not hit the target.

In first-half injury time, Ilham's right-wing cross was parried by Saudi Arabia goalkeeper Waleed Abdullah with Irfan Bachdim spurning a golden opportunity from the loose ball.

Saudi Arabia continued to storm the defences of Indonesia who were commanded by Hamka Hamzah early in the second half. However, Wirawan again proved brilliant in goal, to break the movement of Mohammad Al Shahloub.

After 62 minutes, Wirawan again showed his skill when he saved a header from substitute Nasser Al Shamrani. Three minutes later, the 30-year-old goalkeeper again did well to dispel Naif Hazizi's chance.

Indonesia had a golden opportunity in the 78th minute when Irfan stole the ball in attack and deceived Abdullah however his shot into the lower left corner of the goal was cleared away by the Saudi defence.
Moments later Al Shamrani's thunderous shot hit the crossbar and on 82 minutes Wirawan again thwarted Taisir Al Jassim.

Saudi Arabia pushed for a winner late in the contest however it remained a goalless draw.

Indonesia will face Qatar on October 11 at the Bung Karno Stadium while Saudi Arabia will make a trip to Thailand on the same day in their 2014 World Cup qualifier.
