UAE champions Al Jazira expecting apology from Argentina coaching target Alejandro Sabella after no-show

The former Copa Libertadores-winning coach has left the Abu Dhabi giants upset after failing to contact them about his future at the club having agreed to a one-year deal in June

Al Jazira are demanding an apology from Alejandro Sabella after he failed to arrive in Dubai on Tuesday following speculation he could soon be unveiled as the new Argentina coach.

The 56-year-old former Estudiantes coach had been expected to arrive in UAE on Tuesday ahead of pre-season having been appointed Al Jazira's new boss in June.

However, Sabella was a no-show with reports suggesting he held a meeting with Argentina Football Association president Julio Grondona on Tuesday about becoming their new national team coach following Sergio Batista's resignation.

The situation has frustrated Al Jazira who told Sport360 they were expecting an apology from Sabella who hadn't even contacted the club to clarify the situation.

“We are still waiting to hear from him and there has been no news," Al Jazira team manager Ayed Mabkhout said.

“He hasn’t come out and told us that he wishes to terminate his contract with the club, but the administration has taken serious steps to search for a new coach and names will be revealed when Sabella submits an official apology.

“Maybe he is currently negotiating terms with the Argentine Football Association (AFA), but he ought to keep us informed and he hasn’t done that.

“He has a contract with the club and is obliged to honour it, so we are currently just waiting to hear from him and whether he wants to coach us or take up the position with the AFA. He needs to tell us what he plans to do and we want to hear his decision from him.”
