China head coach Gao Hongbo has slammed his players after their 2-0 friendly defeat to Iran, calling on them to eradicate the "stupid mistakes" in their friendly tonight against Paraguay.

Hongbo has overseen something of a transformation in the national team during his reign, qualifying them for the 2011 Asian Cup and securing impressive results against high-profile opponents.

Yet the recent defeat to Iran was a notable setback and Hongbo is demanding an improvement from his side.

“I am not at all satisfied with our performance against Iran," Hongbo said. "We made some stupid mistakes but the poor pitch didn’t help much either.

“Back-to-back matches are important for us considering we are going to have a similar schedule in the Guangzhou Asian Games, 2011 Asian Cup and 2014 World Cup qualifiers. "

Paraguay are coming off a strong showing at the 2010 World Cup, where they reached the Quarter Finals, though they recently suffered a 1-0 defeat to Japan in a friendly match in Yokohama.

"Paraguay might be the stronger team on paper, but it doesn't mean that they are unbeatable," Hongbo added.

“They were quarter-finalists in the World Cup and they do want to get something after losing to Japan.

“What is important now for us is not the result of the friendlies, but how to improve our team and the players' ability when facing different types of opponents.”

"I don't care much about the match result against Paraguay as long as the players perform to their best ability and do what they have learnt in training."
