A-League Round-Up: Perth Glory And Adelaide United Joint Top, Sydney FC Last
Disastrous start to campaign gets worse for defending champions.
By Chris Paraskevas
Just when the Melbourne Victory looked like they might kick-start their season they came crashing back down to earth against Graham Arnold's stubborn Central Coast Mariners.
Rostyn Griffiths and Daniel McBreen scored in the first and second half respectively, taking adavantage of a Melbourne side still struggling to overcome the loss of prolific striker Archie Thompson to injury and prodigious talent Mitch Langerak in goals after his overseas move.
Melbourne Heart 1-0 North Queensland Fury
A meagre crowd of just over 4,000 people turned up to watch the Melbourne Heart register their first ever A-League victory against one of the competition's form teams.
They relied on some excellent goalkeeping from veteran Clint Bolton and some particularly poor finishing by the Fury to do so, hanging on after Nick Kalmar gave them an early lead with a convincing header.
Sydney FC 1-3 Adelaide United
It's been a disastrous start to the season for the defending champions Sydney, who now find themselves bottom of the ladder after being outplayed by Rini Coolen's impressive Adelaide in front of their lowest ever A-League crowd.

The Reds have gone from wooden spooners to what seems genuine title contenders at this stage, playing an attractive passing game that was too much for a Sydney side who were sluggish across the park, going down 3-0 and looking a shadow of the side that lifted the title last season.
Newcastle Jets 0-0 Brisbane Roar
A valuable point on the road for the Brisbane Roar, who have notably gone through their first four games without conceding a single goal.
The Newcastle Jets are a club embattled off the pitch at the moment by a worrying financial situation and a victory would have done much to help fans forget about off-field concerns but a late red card for Ruben Zadkovich summed up what's been a frustrating start to the season.
Perth Glory 2-1 Wellington Phoenix
A win and a goal to each of their biggest stars, this was in many respects the perfect result for a Perth Glory side that has made the necessary start to what could be a watershed season in the A-League.
The Pheonix fought back after going down 2-0 thanks to goals from Mile Sterjovski and Robbie Fowler but they were unable to prevent the Glory from going joint top of the table with Adelaide.
