A-League Round-Up: Referee Decisions Make Headlines As Sydney FC Stumble
Melbourne Victory grab first win.
By Chris Paraskevas
Two of the form teams thus far in the A-League clashed and it was Ange Postecoglou's youthful Brisbane side who took the three points as Kosta Barbarouses netted a well-worked goal against his former club.
It's been a positive start to the season for the men in orange, a sharp contrast to the controversy surrounding the mid-season player culling that marred their last campaign.
North Queensland Fury 2-3 Adelaide United
Frantisek Straka suffered his first defeat as Fury manager to Rini Coolen's impressive Adelaide, who have moved quickly to dispel memories of what was a disastrous season that saw them finish last.
The Fury took the lead inside ten minutes but Adelaide simply had too much quality and held on despite a late fightback.
Sydney FC 1-1 Central Coast Mariners
Controversial officiating dominated a match that Sydney really needed to win to kick-start their title defence and it seemed as though they were about to do just that when Rhyan Grant gave them the lead just after the restart.

Flores | Struck for Adelaide United
The Mariners were gifted a way back into the game when experienced referee Matthew Breeze gave a penalty and a red card to Liam Reddy for what seemed to be a non-existent foul on Patricio Perez, the import converting to ensure Sydney remain without a win this season.
Gold Coast United 0-1 Melbourne Victory
Sydney's fellow grand finalists from last season have looked rather more impressive in their opening matches and finally grabbed their first win away against the Gold Coast.
United's home ground was sparsely populated and the Victory took advantage of their opponent's relative lack of home ground advantage, Robbie Kruse netting the only goal of the game in the first half.
Melbourne Heart 2-2 Perth Glory
If not for another controversial penalty award in injury time the Melbourn Heart would have been celebrating their first ever A-League win but it was not to be as Robbie Fowler converted a late equalizer from the spot, after Michael Baird went to ground questionably in the box.
The Heart had converted their own spot-kick through Gerald Sibon after four minutes before Michael Marrone put the ball through his own net fiftee minutes later, youngster Nick Kalmar restoring the lead for the home side before they had victory snatched from them at the death.
Bye: Newcastle Jets
Standings: 1st. Perth Glory, 8pts, 2nd. Adelaide United, 8pts, 3rd. Brisbane Roar, 7pts, 4th. North Queensland Fury, 5pts.
