Iranian Leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad Slams Paul The Octopus
The sea creature has been touted as a symbol of all that is wrong with the western world...
Paul the Octopus might be one of the most sought after sea creatures on the summer transfer market after his flawless prediction record at the 2010 World Cup, but the Oberhausen-located animal has failed to win the sympathy of Iranian leader Mahmoud Ahmadinejad.
Ahmadinejad has launched a scathing attack on Paul the Octopus, claiming that the soothsayer represents everything bad the western world stands for.
"That octopus is a symbol of decadence and decay among 'his enemies'. He is a symbol of all that is wrong with the western world," the Iranian leader was quoted as saying.
"He's spreading western propaganda and superstition. Those who believe in this type of thing cannot be the leaders of the global nations that aspire, like Iran, to human perfection, basing themselves in the love of all sacred values."
Paul became an international star after accurately predicting the outcome of all seven German World Cup matches plus the final between Spain and Holland.
