Indonesia’s hopes of qualifying for the 2011 Asian Cup were dealt a severe blow as they lost 2-1 in Kuwait to a late goal from Bader Al Motawaa.

The result leaves the visitors in bottom spot in Group B with just two points from the opening three games while Kuwait go second behind Australia.

Bambang Pamungkas struck just after the half-hour at the Kuwait SC Stadium to put Indonesia ahead, heading home from Ismed Sofyan’s corner.

Kuwait battled to get back in the game and did so on the hour from the spot.

Muhammed Ilham brought down Walied Ali in the box and Al Motawaa made no mistake with the resultant kick.

The momentum was now with the hosts as they continued to press forward looking for the winner.

It came with two minutes remaining as Walied Ali found Al Motawaa on the edge of the area and the striker shot past Markus Horison to gave his team three vital points.

The two teams meet again in Jakarta on Wednesday.
