UAE kicked off their campaign to qualify for the 2011 Asian Cup with a 5-0 thrashing of Malaysia on Wednesday evening.
UAE were on top from the beginning at the Kuala Lumpur Stadium and took the lead just before the half-hour.
Mohamad Omar Al-Shaddadi was sent clear by Abdul Salam Al-Junaibi and he made no mistake to stroke the ball past Malaysia’s goalkeeper Syamsuri Mustafa.
Al Shaddadi added a second just before the break from the spot and just past the hour Ismail Mattar made it three.
Malaysian boss B. Sathianathan even swapped goalkeepers in an attempt to stem the tide but it was to no avail.
After 75 minutes, Mattar added his second and his team’s fourth and with five minutes to go, teenage sensation Ahmad Khalil completed the rout.
