American walking to the World Cup for charity dies en route

A man walking from the United States to Brazil for charity was hit by a pickup truck and died in Oregon
Football fan Richard Swanson died on Tuesday just two weeks into a proposed year-long journey to the World Cup after being struck by a car.

The 42-year-old was walking from Seattle to Sao Paulo for charity but his mission has been cut tragically short following the most unfortunate of accidents.

The trek was supposed to cover 11 countries in 12 months. Instead it ended in Lincoln City, Oregon on the shoulder of U.S. 101.

A Nissan truck hit him from behind, and Swanson died in a hospital shortly after. The driver remained on the scene and co-operated with the police.

Swanson was walking and posting YouTube videos in support of the One World Futbol Project.
