The Qatari club have allegedly entered the race for the 31-year-old Iran international's signature following reports of his potential departure from PamplonaOsasuna's Iran international Javad Nekounam according to reports.
The Tehran Times claims the 31-year-old, who has been linked with Esteghlal and an unnamed club in Turkey, is being chased by 2012 Emir of Qatar Cup winners Al Gharafa.
Osasuna are allegedly eager to sell Nekounam this transfer window as they try to lower their wage bill, with the Iranian, who has one year remaining on his current contract, understood to be their highest earner.
However, according to the report, Nekounam has indicated he wants to remain in Spain and Navarro Sport claims he may be willing to accept a pay reduction to do so.
“I'd like to continue my career in Spain. I’ve had good times at Osasuna and my friends have advised me to stay here,” Nekounam said according to Qatari website Al Kaas.
Nekounam has been with the Pamplona-based club since 2006, making more than 150 appearances for them, including 31 last term.
Prior to his move to Spain, Nekounam spent time with UAE pair Al Wahda and Al Sharjah having come through the ranks with PAS Tehran in his homeland.
