Iran replace Iraq with Albania for May 27 friendly in Turkey
The Lions of Mesopotamia pulled out of their friendly with Team Melli earlier this week, but there appears to have been a swift resolution
Iran's Football Federation have moved quickly to find a replacement for Iraq after they cancelled a May 27 friendly in Istanbul, with Albania becoming Team Melli's new opponent. The Albanian Football Federation (FSHF) made the announcement on its website, with the details of the game to be the same as previously planned with the Lions of Mesopotamia.
According to the Tehran Times, Iraq cancelled the friendly due to a disagreement on where it should be hosted.
Iran begin a training camp in Turkey on May 21 and were using the friendly as preparation for their opening final round 2014 World Cup qualifiers, which begin on June 3 away to Uzbekistan.
Albania are currently ranked 84th in the world and are coached by former Udinese boss Gianni De Biasi.
The Red and Blacks failed to qualify for the 2012 European Championships after finishing second last in Group D with nine points from 10 games.
