It will be a real David and Goliath final...
The two semi-finals of the Hafzi Cup were played on Friday in Iran.
In the first match, Gostaresh Foolad of Tabriz hosted holders Zob-Ahan of Isfahan.
Gostaresh were not considered to be a serious challenge to their opponents as they are currently sitting in sixth spot in Group Two of the Iranian Division One, and have only a small chance of promotion.
Thanks however to a lot of hard running, stiff defending, and opportunistic counter attacking they managed to defeat their strong top league opponents by two unanswered goals.
The first goal was scored by Nasser Azarkayvan fifteen minutes into the match, and Brazilian Silas Jose Feitosa De Sousa scored an insurance goal in the closing minutes of the regular time.
Zob-Ahan were awarded a penalty kick a minute later and might have had a chance to get back into the match during the five minutes of extra time, but Hassan Ashjari missed from the spot and Gostaresh went through to the final.
They will meet Persepolis who defeated Saba after a penalty shootout.
The two teams approached the match very cautiously and fought for the control of the midfield for most of the 90 minutes of regulation and the ensuing 30 minutes of overtime. After a goalless 120 minutes, the match had to be decided in a penalty shootout which Perspolis won 4-3.
he date and the venue of the Final have not been yet determined.
