International Friendly Result: Singapore 1-4 Oman - Lions Tamed At Home
It was not the best way to end 2009...
There
was to be no New Year cheer in the last ever 'A' International of this
decade in the world as Singapore went down 4-1 to Oman in a friendly at
the Bishan Stadium this evening.
It was the second meeting in the space of three days between the two teams. The earlier match ended goalless.
It was a different story on Thursday as three first half goals in the first half knocked the stuffing out of the home side despite a bright start by the Lions.
Fauzi Basheer opened the scoring after 15 minutes and five minutes later, Yaqoob AbdullKareem made it two.
There was still time in the opening period for Hussan Ali to end the game as a contest.
A fourth after 69 minutes from Osama Hadid proved to be largely academic by that time.
Shaiful Esah made a return from injury and was to be Singapore's main weapon with his deadly set-pieces. And it was from his wickedly struck free-kick that gave the Lions their consolation on the night.
Both teams are preparing for 2011 Asian Cup qualifiers on January 6.
Singapore host Iran while Oman take on Indonesia.
