Iran will be without Spanish-based stars Javad Nekounam and Masoud Shojaei for their upcoming four-nation tournament in Qatar and a January 2011 Asian Cup qualifier in Singapore.

Coach Afshin Ghotbi has called 25 players for the tournament starting on December 27 when they will take on Qatar, Mali and North Korea.

The Osasuna players have not been allowed by their club to take part but Fulham’s Andranik Teymourian is in the squad.

Ferydoon Zandi returns to the international set up and striker Gholamreza Rezaei, now playing for Foolad Khuzestan, returns to Team Melli for the first time since Ali Daei was fired in April.

“The Qatar tournament is a good opportunity for us to get to know our team better, and a good opportunity as well for the players to show their potential,” Ghotbi said according to the-afc.com.

Iran, in first place in their 2011 Asian Cup qualification group with two matches left to play, will qualify for the tournament if they defeat Singapore on January 6 and Thailand and Jordan draw.
