Al Hilal thrashed Al Ittihad 5-0 on Thursday to cement their place at the top of the Saudi Arabian league table.
It was a terrible night for the Asian Champions League
runners-up at the hands of their bitter rivals.
Swedish star Christian Wilhelmsson started and finished the rout while in between Thiago Neves helped himself to a hat-trick.
The defeat leaves Al ittihad 11 points behind the leaders,
though they have two games in hand.
“(Coach Gabriel) Calderon made a
mistake by using Obaid Al Shamrani at the beginning of the match while he had
Rashed Al Rahib who was ready,” chairman Khaled Al Marzouqi said according to
“The coach did his best to deal with the match but he
didn't get what he wanted. We are still looking to win the league because we
have strong players and a good coach."
“Our managment is
organised, and we don't make hasty decisions, and even for the players, we will
not think of new signings before the mid-season break in January.”
Al Shabab stay second after a 3-0 win over Al Qadisiya.
