Just four days after their heartbreaking
2010 World Cup elimination at the hands of New Zealand, Bahrain bounced back to
defeat Yemen 4-0 in their 2011 Asian Cup qualifier.
The win maintains the Reds’ 100% record in Group A and puts them level on nine points with leaders Japan, though Bahrain have played a game less.
It took Bahrain just 20 minutes to open the scoring in Manama, Ismail Abdullatif latched on to a pass from Adbulla Fatadi to score.
Fatadi made it two just eight minutes later. Bahrain continued to press and ended the game as a contest just after the hour through substitute Husain Salman.
There was still time to add a fourth as Yemen’s Aref Al Dali scored an own goal to complete a dismal evening for the West Asians and put some sort of smile back of the face of football in Bahrain.
