Iran: League Coaches Suspended Amid Corruption Concerns
A scandal is threatening to engulf Iranian football…
According to reports in Tehran, a number of Iranian Premier
League (IPL) coaches have been suspended on suspicion of corruption.
The head of the IPL, Azizolah Mohammadi, is quoted as saying that several active coaches will be barred until further notice from working in Iran’s football.
These individuals are said to be accused of corruption and/or acting on behalf agents to bring players to their clubs.
The club presidents have been confidentially told of these names but Mohammadi has refused to publicly name them so far.
He told IRNA news agency, “Other than those suspended, there are other coaches and players that will be allowed to work on conditional basis in Iran’s football.”
The names of several coaches have been published in the Iranian media but Mohammadi refused to confirm or deny that those named are suspected of wrongdoing.
