Iraq Fire Jorvan Vieira As National Team Coach

Iraq have fired Jorvan Vieira as coach of the national team after just four months since appointing him for the second time.
The Brazilian, who led Iraq to the 2007 Asian Cup, was shown the door after a disappointing Gulf Cup campaign in January when Iraq failed to win a single game.

"The Union has found it appropriate to dismiss the coach for his lack of success in leading the team in the 19th Gulf Cup," Najeh Hamud, vice-president of the Iraqi Football Union told reporters in Baghdad.

Iraq will now look to a foreign coach though as the team has already qualified for the 2011 Asian Cup as champions and is eliminated from qualification for the 2010 World Cup, there is no hurry.

"The Union has decided to hand the job of training the football team to a foreign coach," added Hamud.
