Ambitious new Johor FA president to make audacious move for Juan Roman Riquelme

The ambitious Malaysian club, who recently appointed Gabriel Batistuta as its new adviser, are lining up a shock move for the Argentine who is leaving Boca Juniors
Johor FA is launching an ambitious bid to sign veteran Argentine playmaker Juan Roman Riquelme according to The Star.

Tunku Mahkota Johor Tunku Ismail Ibni Sultan Ibrahim, who has just taken over as president of the Johor FA, tweeted that they will be offering a contract to Riquelme upon receiving information that he would not be renewing his contract with Argentine giants Boca Juniors.

According to The Star's source, Johor FA has identified Riquelme as a marquee signing to lead Johor in the Premier League next season.

This news will not come as a surprise as Fiorentina legend Gabriel Batistuta has just been appointed as the new adviser to the Johor FA.

Besides Riquelme, Tunku Ismail is also rumored to be looking at other options such as Andres D’Alessandro, David Trezeguet and even Michael Owen.

This ambitious bid signals the return of an era in Malaysian football when we were able to attract big names in European football such as Chris Kiwomya and Tony Cottee in the 90’s.
