Thailand to host Iraq friendly in Bangkok

The War Elephants will play an international friendly match in September against the West Asian side as their preparation ahead of the 2012 AFF Cup
Thailand have announced part of their preparations for the 2012 AFF Cup with a friendly match against Iraq on September 1 in Bangkok.

Iraq, who will start their training camp on August 7, will also use this match as preparation before heading to Japan for their third match of the final stage in World Cup qualifiers.

The last time these two teams met was in the 2008 King's Cup final at Rajamangala Stadium, when the Thais grabbed a narrow 2-1 victory over the 2007 Asian champions.

Previously, Thailand coach Winfried Schafer stated that his side need to play more friendly matches in the run-up to the final round of South-East Asia’s major tournament.

The War Elephants have been scheduled to host Philippines in their opening match of the 2012 AFF Cup on November 24.
