The Malaysian youngster could make his debut in a pre-season friendly against Portuguese giants FC Porto after a bright start to life at Beira-Mar
Guimaraes told local newspaper The New Straits Times that Nazmi, the first Malaysian to play for a top flight European club, is in line to make his first appearance for the club in a friendly match against Portugal’s best known team, FC Porto, at the end of this month.
He also added that manager Ulisses Morais is keen to play Nazmi as soon as possible to help him settle in faster within the team.
However the Kuala Lumpur-born midfielder has yet to sign a proper contract with Beira-Mar, due to Fifa rules which do not allow players to sign professional contracts with clubs until they turn 18. Nazmi will celebrate his 18th birthday next month and is expected to put pen to paper then.
Nazmi’s Aveiro-based club is scheduled to open its new season against Academica Coimbra on August 19.
