French And Chinese Teams Join Singapore's S-League

The S-League continues its cosmopolitan flavour...
French club Étoile FC and Beijing Guoan FC from China have been named by the FA of Singapore (FAS) as the two clubs which will complete the line-up of the 12 teams taking part in the S-League 2010.

In announcing the decision, FAS president Zainudin Nordin said that the choice was made through ‘a long diligence process’ with the applicants measured against three broad criteria – their management, financial and technical strength.

“After a thorough assessment process, I believe we have selected the two strongest teams among the applicants,” said Zainudin.

The FAS received a total of eight applications from teams from Asia, Europe, South America and Australia.

“First of all, I would like to say thank you to the FAS,” said Étoile CEO Johan Gouttefangeas.

“We hope for everyone’s support in this project, because it is still a long way for us before we get to our target, which is lifting one of the trophies.”
