International Friendly Result: Singapore 0-0 Oman - Missed Penalty Costs Lions
A decent warm-up in south-east Asia...
Singapore are preparing for their 2011 Asian Cup qualifier against Iran on January 6 while Oman will take on Indonesia.
The match started tamely, with both teams having equal possession and neither creating any clear cut chances.
The first shot of the game came from Oman, a weak challenge that Lionel easily scooped up. Indra Sahdan gave Singapore the best opportunity to take the lead when he was felled in the box.
Mustafic Fahrudin stepped up for the spot-kick, only to see his penalty saved by Omani goalkeeper Mohammed Huwaidi, much to the disappointment of the 1,503 spectators.
Nevertheless, the Lions kept pressure on the Oman half with speedy runs down the flanks, with Amri nearly scoring for the Lions with a powerful 25-meter drive that unfortunately slammed into the side-netting.
The second-half saw six substitutions from the Singapore bench, with Hassan Sunny coming in for Lionel Lewis in goal and Ridhuan Muhamad, Tengku Mushadad, Fazrul Nawaz, Masrezwan Masturi and Rosman Sulaiman providing fresh legs for the Lions.
Despite several forays into the opponent’s territory and a number of decent chances, both teams were unable to break the deadlock.
The match finally ended 0-0.
