China Wrap: So Tight At The Top
Just goal difference separates the top three in the Middle Kingdom's premier division...
Changchun and Henan are exactly
level in the Chinese Super League, with Shandong a very close third.
Changchun defeated Shenzhen 3-1, with the 2007 champions having to come from behind.
Cao Tianbao equalised five minutes before the break and put the team ahead two minutes after. Ai Zhibo sealed the win just before the end.
"It was an important victory for Changchun because it boosted our confidence ahead of the upcoming tough matches, including our next game against Beijing Guoan," said Changchun coach Li Shubin.
Henan were held to a 1-1 draw at home to bottom club Chengdu Blades.
Shandong Luneng went third with a 1-0 win at Tianjin Teda. Brazilian striker Luis missed two great first-half chance for the hosts but with five minutes remaining, Shandong forward Han Peng headed a vital goal for the champions.
Referee Chen Honghui stole the show in the goalless draw between Beijing and Shanghai.
He controversially disallowed a Shanghai goal seven minutes from the end. Beijing then also complained after the match about Chen’s failure to penalise Shanghai’s players for a number of fouls.
An Ahn Jung-hwan goal gave Dalian a 1-0 win over Changsa.
"We should have scored more goals to make sure of the victory," said Dalian coach Xu Hong.
"The lack of a killer touch showed that we are still a young team and our performances are not stable."
Serbian coach Slobodan Santrac had a perfect debut in Qingdao as striker Qu Bo got both goals in a 2-1 win over Shanxi.
Elsewhere, Hangzhou drew 1-1 with Chongqing and Guangzhuo defeated Jiangsu 1-0.
