India: Federation Cup To Start On Thursday.

The Federation Cup is to start on December 4 next month with all the group games being played at the Barasat Stadium while the semi-finals and finals to take place at Salt Lake Stadium, Kolkata.

East Bengal, India
There was some confusion as to when the Cup tournament was to kick-off. Earlier, the All India Football Federation (AIFF) had declared December 4 but after being intimated by the Indian Football Association (IFA), which is the football association for the state of West Bengal.

Then there were talks of the Federation Cup to kick-off from December 7 but in that case, the final would be played on the 24th when the Salt Lake is expected to host ‘some event’.

An AIFF official said, “We couldn’t have post-poned the final to the 23rd as the Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the AIFF is to take place. If we have the final post-24th, it is believed that the President of India is to visit Kolkata and so once again, the ground won’t be available.

“This is when we decided to have the matches as scheduled earlier and we shall play the group games at the Barasat Stadium while the semi-finals and finals will take place at the Salt Lake.”

The only change apart from the stadium is that the matches scheduled on the 6th have now been shifted to the 7th.
